What Grades are taught at SMA?

We are a combined Elementary and Middle School with grades PreK-3 through 8th.

What time of day does school begin and end?

Grades K-8 begin their day at 7:45 am and are dismissed at 2:45 pm. PreK-3&4 (VPK) classes begin at 8 am and dismiss at noon. Extended day care is available at 7 am, and aftercare is available until 6 pm.

What are the class sizes?

To ensure the highest-quality education, we limit class sizes and have classroom assistants support our Pre-K through fourth-grade teachers. The average class size is 22.

Does SMA offer scholarships?

Yes. We offer limited tuition assistance through our school scholarship fund. Parish families may request scholarship assistance by applying through FACTS. We also accept Step Up for Students Scholarships. For additional information, please visit the Scholarship tab. To apply, please click the link: https://www.stepupforstudents.org/scholarships

Does my child have to be Catholic to attend?

No. We welcome students of all faiths. Our non-Catholic families appreciate the Catholic faith, values, and prayer taught, value the atmosphere we provide for their children, and are impressed by how it strengthens them spiritually.

Does SMA except religious medical exemptions?

No. St. Michael Academy requires all enrolled students to have a certified DH680 uploaded into Florida Shots. Form DH 680, Florida Certification of Immunization, must be used to document receipt of Immunizations. No religious exemptions are allowed.

Do you accept home-schooled children?

Yes. We have many former homed-schooled children in our student body. Our high level of parental involvement, strong academic standards, and vibrant Catholic school atmosphere support a home-school vision for a child’s education.

Does SMA offer childcare?

Yes. Extended Day Care is available from 7 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, when school is in session.

What testing system does SMA employ?

Beginning in 2nd grade, our students are given the TerraNova Standardized Achievement Test, a norm-referenced test administered to Catholic schools across the US and to public schools in many states. This test assesses student achievement in reading, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, writing, punctuation, research skills, math computation, problem-solving, data interpretation, science, and social studies. Our students consistently perform well above average on these tests.

How many students attend the school

We typically have about 250–275 students in grades PreK-8.

How do SMA students rank among their peers?

St. Michael Academy is a proud recipient of the 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award. Our students consistently rank in the Top 10 percent on national achievement tests. They have also won national and regional awards for academics, arts, and sports. Over 98% of our students go on to college, and 90% enroll in four-year universities.

What are your teachers' qualifications?

All of our faculty are certified and licensed by the state of Florida, the Diocese of St. Augustine, and the National Catholic Education Association.

What non-core academics and technologies does SMA offer its students?

In addition to our core subjects, we teach Art, Music, Computer Technology, Foreign Language, Media, and Physical Education. We have a dedicated science lab, computer lab, library, media center, and music hall.
